"I have always been interested in fitness, having grown up around the weight room as the daughter of a very active football coach. After graduating college, I really found that lifting weights and doing cardio were such wonderful ways to relieve stress from day to day living. As the years have progressed I have come to realize that fitness is an essential piece to a healthy mind, body and spirit connection. I discovered hot yoga after a pretty serious neck injury and could not believe how much the yoga helped my mobility. I also had no idea that yoga could bring so much calm to the mind! That was an added bonus! I thought that if the yoga could help me so much, it could help others too, so on my fortieth birthday, I decided to go to Florida for four weeks and get trained as a hot yoga instructor. I am so excited to be a part of the team assembled here at PM Yoga, as we strive to help our students transcend physical limitations, so they can be who they want to be!"

Tonya Phillips
Registered Yoga Teacher

I learned as a young mother that exercise not only made me look and feel better, but it helped relieve the stress of being a stay at home mom of 3 boys. I would do cardio and weights and occasionally pop in a yoga tape. Although I love being a mom and have been blessed to be able to stay home with my kids, I never went to college and always hoped that one day I'd find a passion and finally decide what I wanted to be when I grew up. I started going to yoga classes when the PM Yoga studio opened and fell in love, making it a priority to practice 3-4 times a week.. I soon noticed strength and flexibility different from other workouts and a calmness inside I had never experienced, along with a new-found body awareness. I had found my passion and wanted others to have the same experience that I had from practicing yoga. With encouragement from all the teachers here, in Jan. 2009, I began a teacher training program in integrated hatha yoga. I finished in June of 09' and now hope to share my love of yoga with everyone I can.

"I started teaching fitness classes at the age of seventeen and have been an exercise enthusiast ever since. I added weight training into my daily program a few years later and once I saw the changes in my body through weight training and proper diet, just for the experience; I participated in an amateur bodybuilding contest. I've been practicing yoga for about seven years but grew up with it all my life with my father being an old yogi himself. I love helping people reach their fitness goals and have been involved in personal training for about three years now. I feel that incorporating cardio, strength training and stretching in traditional and non-traditional exercise programs is extremely important to achieve a healthy and balanced exercise regime. I am certified through the ACSM as a personal trainer and am starting my 200 hr yoga teacher training in January through the Cincinnati school of yoga."

Andrea Perkins

"I became interested in yoga my senior year in college and began practicing at home with video tapes. A few years later, after I had my daughter, I started taking yoga classes at a local gym and soon after became interested in teaching. My instructor suggested I look into the teacher training program at Yoga East, so in the fall of 2004, I began my training at Yoga East. While I was going through my training I taught classes at Premier Fitness and soon after began teaching pre-natal classes at Yoga East. One of the workshops that I attended while I was studying at Yoga East was given by Francois Raoult and his teachings inspired my form of teaching today. He taught how sequencing is extremely important and how you can flow from one pose to another. I received my teaching certificate in 2006 and as a result gained experience in teaching many different styles of yoga from Hatha and Iyengar to pre-natal and Ashtanga."

Matt Stivers
Yoga Teacher

Matt is a 2001 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a degree in advertising, and is currently a graphic designer with a newspaper group.  He began taking yoga classes along with his Mother after college, but it wasn't until the last few years that he became a dedicated student.  Like many, he practiced any form of yoga that he could find locally.  After an intense weekend workshop in Toronto he fell in love with Ashtanga yoga, and knew that is what he wanted to share with others.  Matt is currently finishing up his 200 hour certification in Ashtanga at Yoga Ah! in Cincinnati.
